Arrested: Santiago Prieto, 63, Boise
Charges: Aggravated Assault (F) – 3 counts, Unlawful possession of a firearm by a convicted felon (F)
Around 4:20 am Ada County Paramedics responded to a call for service at a hotel on the 2700 block of W. Elder Street. Upon arrival, paramedics heard a gunshot from the subject’s hotel room and Boise Police quickly responded. As officers arrived and began to set up in the parking lot, the suspect discharged a firearm twice more, one time in the direction of three officers who saw the muzzle flash and heard the gunshot go off. Further evidence indicates the suspect discharged the gun out of the window. Officers identified the man as Santiago Prieto and began talking with him through an open window. Additional resources arrived and were ready to assist as needed. No hotel guests were staying in rooms near the suspect's room and officers secured the scene to keep people away. Eventually, officers were able to talk Prieto into exiting the room without the weapon and he was safely taken into custody just before 5:45 am. During a check, it was discovered that Prieto has a criminal history and is a prohibited possessor. Prieto was taken to a local hospital and cleared before being booked into the Ada County Jail on the listed charges.

Our officers did an excellent job isolating and containing the situation and using appropriate tools and tactics to safely resolve this incident. I want to thank our regional law enforcement partners including Idaho State Police and the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for their fast response to assist us as well,” said Boise Police Captain Jim Quackenbush.
