UPDATE: Suspect charged following September 24, 2024 Critical Incident

Charges: 3 Counts - Robbery (F), Enhancement – Use of a Deadly Weapon in Commission of a Felony

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force, led by the Meridian Police Department, is continuing to investigate the officer-involved shooting from Tuesday, September 24, 2024, in Boise.  The suspect injured in the shooting, Adam Cook, is in police custody at the hospital and being held on a warrant for the listed charges. Additional charges related to the September 24, 2024 incident are pending.

Prior to Cook’s arrest, Boise Police were investigating multiple recent armed robberies in the Boise area. An additional investigation remains ongoing in coordination with Nampa Police in Nampa.

On September 15, 2024, just after 7:30 pm, an unknown male suspect entered a business on the 7000 block of W. Fairview Ave, produced a handgun, confronted an employee, and demanded money. After taking an undisclosed amount of money, the suspect left. Upon further investigation, detectives learned the suspect had also taken the employee’s vehicle keys and stole their vehicle. It was later recovered in the area of N. Maple Grove Rd. and W. Northview St. The suspect was captured on surveillance video abandoning the vehicle approximately 30 minutes after the robbery occurred.

On September 21, 2024, shortly before 9:30 pm, an unknown suspect entered a business on the 6000 block of W. Overland Rd., confronted an employee, demanded money, and proceeded to display a handgun placed in his waistband. After taking the money, the suspect left the business.

On September 24th officers identified the suspect in both armed robberies as Adam Cook.

Around 9:30pm on September 24, 2024, Boise Police responded to another report of an armed robbery. Officers received information that indicated Cook was the involved suspect. The suspect was located a short time later as described in the news release on September 25, 2025. An officer-involved shooting occurred, and the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force was activated to investigate. The two involved Boise Police officers who discharged their duty weapons are Cpl. L. Gutierrez (25 years law enforcement experience, the last 18 with BPD) and Ofc. J. Jayne (16 years law enforcement experience, the last 6 with BPD).

Around 9:30pm on September 24, 2024, Boise Police responded to a report of an armed robbery with a gun at a business on W. Fairview near N. McKinney St.  The suspect fled and officers located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle just north of Fairview on Cole Road.  Officers attempted to perform a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The vehicle pulled over briefly before fleeing south on Cole.  Officers were able to get a possible identification for the suspect and discontinued the pursuit.

Soon after, officers received information about a vehicle again matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle near Cole and Ustick.  Officers saw the suspect jump a fence into the backyard of a home on N. Redway Road. Officers set up containment around the backyard and notified nearby residents. As officers worked to make contact with the suspect and attempt to take him into custody, an officer involved shooting occurred, with two Boise Police officers firing at the suspect. The suspect was injured and officers deployed a K9 and less lethal options allowing officers to safely approach the suspect and take him into custody.

Officers provided medical aid at the scene until Ada County Paramedics arrived and took the suspect to the hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Meridian Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The information provided in this news release is considered preliminary pending an investigation. No Boise Police officers were physically injured and the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.
