Boise Police Department Opens New Whitewater Station to Enhance Community Service

March 5, 2025

The Boise Police Department (BPD) is pleased to open its new Whitewater Station, located at 3159 W. State Street, at the intersection of Whitewater Boulevard. This additional location for the police department aims to enhance service delivery, aid in reducing response times, and provide greater convenience for officers on duty.

“The City of Boise is committed to creating a safe and welcoming city for everyone. This is another step that the Boise Police Department is taking towards that goal,” said Mayor Lauren McLean.

The Whitewater Station represents a step forward in BPD's ongoing commitment to optimize its facilities and services. The initial funding for the building’s acquisition and remodeling was approved in December 2023, and just over a year later, officers will begin operating from this new location. This station will serve as an additional site where officers can stop to write reports, handle administrative tasks, and attend to other office duties without needing to travel to the main Police Department Station located at City Hall West.

“Having a new location like the Whitewater Station is a key part of improving the efficiency of our department and ensuring our officers have adequate workspace in order to serve the community more effectively,” said Boise Police Chief Chris Dennison. “This station will provide more accessibility and reduce the time officers spend traveling between calls and administrative tasks, which ultimately means a faster response and more time for community engagement.”

The Whitewater Station will initially house officers assigned to the department’s traffic and special event units, including motorcycle officers and DUI patrols. This new facility is part of a larger Facilities Strategic Plan supported by the Boise City Council.  As part of the plan, we will continue to gather community feedback and assess which resources will be based at the Whitewater Station depending on community needs.

“We recognize the importance of having strategically placed stations throughout Boise to maintain optimal response times and ensure the high quality of service the community expects,” said Dennison. “In addition to Whitewater, we also have the Downtown Station at 2223 Fairview Avenue, which serves as a base for our bike patrol officers and provides another location for officers to conduct necessary tasks during their shifts.”

As part of creating a Facilities Strategic Plan, the department aims to expand or explore additional locations in both the downtown core and the east side of Boise to improve service delivery and ensure officers can respond quickly to incidents citywide.

While officers will use the Whitewater station to do office work, it will not be staffed to handle walk-in reports. The public is still requested to call 911 or non-emergency dispatch at 208-377-6790 to reach an available patrol officer, and the officer will respond to you. Walk-in reports can also be taken at City Hall West, located at 333 N. Mark Stall Place, over the phone, or online.

The Boise Police Department is committed to ensuring that all Boise residents and visitors receive timely, professional, and effective law enforcement services. This expansion reflects the department's dedication to adapting to the evolving needs of the community and enhancing its operational capabilities.
