Today July 23, 2026, at 9:51 a.m. a caller into dispatch reported that he had a knife and was going to commit suicide. As officers were responding to the area of S. Cloverdale Road and W. Overland Road, the nearby gas station was directed to go into lockdown as a precaution.
Officers arrived and at 9:59 a.m. they approached the suspect near a canal. One of the responding officers is part of the Behavioral Health Response Team and his civilian partner was also on scene. Officers attempted to talk with the suspect and de-escalate. The suspect presented a knife and the officers moved back. Officers then deployed a 40 mm less lethal impact munition to avoid further confrontation, and it was unsuccessful. The suspect continued to advance toward officers and at 10:02 a.m. an officer-involved shooting occurred with two officers firing their duty weapons at the suspect. Officers began to provide medical aid until additional first responders arrived and took over care. The suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Ada County Critical Incident Task Force (CITF) led by the Meridian Police Department is investigating the officer-involved shooting. The information provided in this news release is considered preliminary pending an investigation. No Boise Police officers were physically injured, and the involved officers will be placed on administrative leave, per policy.
