Christmas Trees

Compost your Christmas tree!
Residents with compost carts can compost live (not artificial) trees. Remove all decorations and lights, then cut the tree into pieces that fit inside your compost cart so that the lid can fully close. Whole trees left beside your cart may not be collected.
Residents who do not have a compost cart can still compost holiday trees! Take your tree to the Ada County Landfill (10300 N Seamans Gulch Rd) for free from December 26, 2025, to January 10, 2026. Trees taken to the landfill will be composted through Ada County’s wood waste recycling program. Trees or wreathes sprayed with artificial snow or flock should be placed in the trash.

Have broken or old Christmas lights?
These lights contain metals and other materials that can be reused. Recycle them at The Reuseum, Pacific Steel & Recycling, Recycle Boise, Western Recycling and HHW Mobile Collection Sites. Please consult websites for hours of operation.
