National Night Out (NNO) is coming up on August 1st and we encourage neighborhoods across the city to register and join us for the fun. NNO is celebrated across the country on the first Tuesday in August and has proven to be an enjoyable community event that promotes neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
“Every year for National Night Out our officers enjoy going on a different type of patrol and visiting as many neighborhood parties as possible,” said Captain Mike Ruffalo, Community Outreach Division. “From our K9s and K9 handlers to Command Staff and motorcycle officers, it’s a great way for us to interact with the community in a fun way.”
NNO is supported by the Boise Police Department and the Boise Fire Department as well as leaders and agencies across the City of Boise.
“I look forward to attending National Night Out every year,” said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean. “The conversation and connection, the food, the kids, it’s always fun to visit with people on their streets, or in their neighborhood parks, or cul-de-sacs. Building strong neighborhoods is how we create a city for everyone.”
Neighborhoods wishing to plan a party and invite a city representative are encouraged to register their event. Organizers can request attendance from police, fire, paramedics, the mayor’s office, city council, and members of other local agencies and city departments. We hope to schedule attendance for around 50 parties this year.
“One of the great things about NNO is giving neighbors a chance to get to know each other and talk about what is going on in their community,” said Captain Ruffalo. “It’s also an opportunity to talk about public safety or other concerns with representatives from across the city. Building partnerships and communicating about issues is how we make each of our neighborhoods stronger and safer.”
