AI in Government

The Need

Study after study has shown that the use of Generative AI tools can increase productivity, quality of work, and job satisfaction for staff in some roles. And the integration of these tools in government – for example, chatbots for customer service – can improve city services for residents. But there are also significant risks to using Generative AI.

The Solution

We collaborated with stakeholders to create an AI policy, an AI community of practice, and a set of trainings and resources that empower the responsible use of Generative AI tools by city staff. We also launched an AI Ambassadors program in which staff from throughout the city work with their peers to promote responsible experimentation and share learnings related to Generative AI.
