2023 Positions for Election
All six council districts and the mayor will be up for election in 2023. Council districts were created by the Boise Districting Commission based on 2020 census data. In 2023, candidates in odd-numbered districts will run for four-year terms and candidates in even-numbered districts will run for two-year terms so that council elections are staggered. Candidates for mayor run for a four-year term.
In 2020, the Idaho Legislature passed a bill requiring cities with populations over 100,000 people to create districts for city council elections. They also directed cities to declare any unopposed candidate elected, meaning candidates without opposition will not appear on the ballot.
