Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Division manages department public education programs, oversees fire code enforcement and ensures all commercial building fire protection equipment and fire life safety system are tested and maintained according to national fire code requirements. In addition, our inspectors also conduct building site inspections, review and inspect fire operational permits, and fire investigations.

Fire Permits

Boise Fire issues Fire Operational Permits to allow for potentially hazardous activities within the limits of fire-related laws, codes or ordinances.

Fire Inspections

The Fire Prevention Division Inspectors oversee commercial building inspections, business operations considered high hazard, and Fire Operational Permit inspections. Area of jurisdiction includes Boise City limits, NACFR and Whitney Fire district.

Plan Review

A Fire Marshal consultation reviews commercial and residential development projects, and annexation and rezoning proposals:

  • Non-Building Agreements, Release of Non-Build, and Letter of Satisfaction;
  • Annexations and rezoning requiring the attention of the Boise Fire Department in order to ensure that those areas will have adequate fire protection.

Key Box / Knox Box

Key boxes / Knox Boxes are required for all commercial buildings that have a Fire Alarm or Sprinkler system connected to a monitoring service.
