Design Review
All commercial, industrial, office and multi-family residential projects have Design Review approval requirements. The Design Review process enhances important environmental features of the city and ensures that the general appearance of buildings and site improvements are consistent with the goals of the city.
The Design Review Commission (DRC) consists of not less than five nor more than nine voting members. Members of the DRC are appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the City Council. Several members represent the architectural, landscape architectural and engineering professions.
Ensuring Quality Design
In order to protect and promote quality design, a few different sets of design standards exist to contribute to the city design regulations. These include the zoning code itself with sections related to Design and Development, additional city design guidelines, and design guidelines specific to downtown's unique character.
Design Review Goals
- Enhancing properties with adequate landscaping;
- Proper circulation within parking areas;
- Providing sidewalks to meet pedestrian needs;
- Encouraging architecture that responds to the needs of the users and presents an attractive exterior to the public and adjoining property owners.
