Design and Development

The Development and Design Standards within the zoning code help protect the characteristics of the city we know and love. At the core it seeks to protect the health, welfare, safety and quality of life for residents, visitors, and business owners. It addresses the physical relationship between development and nearby properties, public streets, neighborhoods, and the natural environment in order to implement the vision and goals of the city's Comprehensive Plan outlined in Blueprint Boise.

When do these standards apply?

The Design and Development Standards will apply to:

all new development and redevelopment applications unless otherwise specified in another section of the code
the construction of any new primary or accessory structures that require compliance with specific standards
development where compliance is required with specific Design Standards for specific Planning Areas.
